We are a team of creative professionals united by the goal of improving your business communications. Design has just one goal to accomplish: it must simply work. Collectively we've spent over a decade learning what works and why. We do this because we truly love it. It's not about a paycheck (though we love those too). It's about the people we meet, the problems we overcome and the experiences we'll never forget.
We have embraced the environmental movement both as a company and individually. Our servers are completely powered by the wind and sun, we send out electronic invoices and communications as much as possible and part of the electricity our studio uses each month is generated through sustainable means. All of these small steps add up to make a real impact.
We look forward to meeting you, learning about your business and providing you with top notch design and marketing.
I was born a business man and my first taste came early in elementary school. After letting my classmates borrow from my video game collection like I was a charity form of Blockbuster I decided I too should start charging. My close friends could borrow from me for free as long I could add their games to my rental library. Eventually I grew tired of keeping track of the games, so I moved on.
As the years went by my businesses changed with the times. At lunchtime In middle school I sold beef jerky and candy that I bought from a wholesaler. My parents bought me my first computer in high school and I was instantly a computer geek. I started fixing other peoples computers and even building and selling them. Web design and digital photography was only a small jump from here. Once I got my first photo published in a magazine I felt a rush I never felt before and knew I wanted to be a professional photographer.
I knew I had a service I could market to business people, but I just wasn't quite polished enough to compete with already established companies. So, in 2007 I decided to attend the Art Institute of York for Web Design, turning my hobby into a professional service. In 2009 I came together with fellow Ai-York graduates Daniel Kling and Emily Bear to officially form 717 Studios, LLC. Doing this job you get to meet so many interesting people and learn the ins and outs of so many different businesses; I couldn't imagine myself doing anything else. I still get a rush when I see one of my photos published for the world to see.
While not in the studio I love to watch MMA and ride my motorcycle. I play volleyball, tennis and golf through the summer and hit the slopes on my snowboard in the winter. I'm a self proclaimed beer elitist, brewing my own at home and sampling fine beers from around the world wherever I go. I like my coffee black, my whiskey neat and my beer any color but light yellow.
Daniel Kling is a battle tested former Marine Corps sergeant with the wounds to prove it. Think you're under pressure at your work? Try taking shrapnel to your leg from a surprise insurgent mortar attack in Iraq. With what Dan's went through, a tight schedule on a shoestring budget is like a walk in the park.
After serving his country for four years Dan attended the Art Institute of York for Web Design. These days Dan serves as the Art Director for Web here at 717 Studios while continuing his education at Ai-York. In his free time he plays soccer, trains in boxing and follows mixed martial arts. Dan is looking forward to the arrival of his first child, due this fall.
Emily Bear is a graphic designer with a style all her own. Her colleagues are constantly amazed at the work she turns out, even under tremendous pressure and insane deadlines. Emily attended the Art Institute of York, PA for Graphic Design, where doing 50 thumbnails in a night for one logo was the norm. She has an incredible eye for what looks good and what works in graphic design, and she isn't afraid to bluntly tell us that something isn't going to work.
Emily loves to work with her hands through painting and drawing. She enjoys studying the psychology of marketing to learn why people make the buying decisions they make. Her past experience in a large companies marketing department has given her the skills she needs to effectively target your product to the right audience.
